I have a 50hp Johnson outboard. the overheat light and buzzer come on periodically. I have replaced the thermostate and impeller. no change, still goes off, then i unpugged the temp sensor, still goes off. finally unpugged wire at terminal block on the side of engine then it stopped. does this connect to a relay or some other device that shorts out on occasion?

Water coming out of the tale tell does not appear to be hot and I find 45 bucks to replace this sensor extremely high for what it is.
